Most Innovative Shower Remodeling Projects

April 5, 2017 By Ruben Lawson

If you feel like your bathroom is just a little ‘blah’, one of the best ways to give it new life is by installing a new shower. The shower is the centerpiece of the bathroom, so remodeling it can not only help your space feel more stylish, but it can also make it much more comfortable and functional as well. Here are some of the most innovative and unique shower remodeling ideas that have been used in bathroom remodeling in St. Louis and around the world.

Go curbless.

Having a curbless shower is not only very modern and stylish – it’s also very practical. A curbless shower reduces your risk of slipping or tripping when stepping into the shower, and it also makes your shower more ADA-compliant, which is a huge value booster when it eventually comes time to sell your home. A curbless shower also makes your bathroom seem more expansive and creates sleek lines.

Get creative with your tiles.

You don’t have to opt for the same old boring tiles – many of the most innovative bathroom designs right now are making use of colored tiles or even patterned mosaics in the shower. Using color in the shower makes your bathroom feel much more lively and welcoming, particularly on those cold mornings when it’s difficult to get ready for work. If you can’t quite stomach the idea of a full shower of bold tiling, you can use unique colors or shapes as an accent to more traditional white tiles.

Install a rain shower.

One of the most unique trends in bathroom design right now is the concept of a rain shower (see more kitchen and bath remodels in st louis), which is when the water stream is built into the ceiling and falls directly onto you instead of streaming down from an angle. A rain shower is very luxurious and gives you the feeling of being at a spa instead of just showering in your own bathroom. Pair your rain shower with some dim lighting to help you relax.

Let there be light.

If the structure of your home allows for it, try installing a skylight directly above your shower. Many people are hesitant to install windows in their bathroom because of privacy concerns, but a skylight is the perfect way to let some light in without flashing your neighbors. Showering with the sun or moon above you can help you feel closer to nature, even if you just live in the suburbs.

Separate the bathtub.

One of the best ways to make your shower feel more comfortable is by making it a separate space from your bathtub. If your shower is currently in your bathtub, try scoping out a different area of the bathroom and turning it into a private shower area. This makes your bathroom feel more spacious and spa-like. Even if you don’t have a huge bathroom, you can still do this easily if you have a nearby closet you don’t use and you are willing to knock down some walls.
